Can you be a successful OT without considering AT? After all, occupATion, participATion, motivATion, collaborATion, considerATion, evaluATion, fabricATion, customizATion, accommodATion and implementATion all have “AT” in them. Do you have the skills necessary to participate in effective AT consideration? Occupational therapy practitioners possess invaluable skills as members of the IEP team and offer expertise in activity and environmental analysis, tool and environmental modificATion, sensory processing, and strATegies to improve or compensATe for performance variability. Those skills are the building blocks for AT consideration, but without a framework, blueprint, or path, the process can become cumbersome and ineffective.
